The face of truth is open,
The eyes of truth are bright,
The lips of truth are ever closed,
The head of truth is upright.
The breast of truth stands forward,
The gaze of truth is straight,
Truth has neither fear nor doubt,
Truth has patience to wait.
The words of truth are touching,
The voice of truth is deep,
The law of truth is simple:
All that you sow you reap.
The soul of truth is flaming,
The heart of truth is warm,
The mind of truth is clear,
And firm through rain or storm.
Facts are but its shadows,
Truth stands above all sin;
Great be the battle in life,
Truth in the end shall win.

After the war, Malik searched for peace and found it through meditation, non-violence and service. He became a lawyer, writer and for a while the juice man for Muhammad Ali.

Donald Glover expresses the sad history and present day reality for many in the Black community. When this powerful music video first came out I watched it 8 times in a row. I was transfixed by the beauty, horror, sadness, oppression and violence symbolized by his performance.
As the brutal video of George Floyd’s murder at the hands and knees of the four police officers emerged, I was sad and angry. Sad that this man was stripped of his dignity as he was murdered on the street and angry that this still happens every day.
As part of my series of people who have inspired me, I had planned to paint Martin Luther King Jr. The philosophy, courage and words of MLK reverberate today. I Have a Dream One Day...

@robertjekabsons, 4 times golden glove champion, a philosopher, student of history and actor. Most important in his life is his love for his family and especially his mother who created a sanctuary for him and his brothers during the ups and downs of childhood.
Since the age of eight, every day after school he would make a pilgrimage to the gym and train and master his craft. He won bouts and he lost bouts, never giving up. A student of life, he is ambitious, charismatic and humble.
Painting based on his first golden gloves championship.
Portrait of the ever helpful @lucasbpetter, a monk of the spirit. His Buddhist practice guides his life. A meditator, he is an adventurer of the spirit. A kind soul who exudes joy and compassion and expresses itself through his joyful, fun and comical art. May the golden light of the Buddha be ever present in your life!

My uncle, @godfreystephensart, the ultimate artist...Painter, boat builder, drifter, adventurer, storyteller and master sculptor. His works have been exhibited around the world in private and public collections. I’m proud he is my uncle and mentor. Besides his encouragement he sends me the best messages that have no beginning and no end - just streams of thought and his experiences. If you ever get the chance, ask him about his pet monkey and picasso’s dentist. True stories from his life.
I met @jerodjhaynes on one of my many flights to Chicago this year. He saw me drawing on the plane and we talked about the creative process, my love of art and his love of acting.
.When I saw photos from the play he starred in, Gem of the Ocean, I knew I had to paint his portrayal. And when he shared the character and the meaning of the play it resonated with me deeply.
Here is the description in his words: ‘Yea I did some years ago in 2017. It’s called Gem of the Ocean by August Wilson. My character is Citizen Barlow. Parents named him that purposely during a time when he or anyone like him was not considered a citizen.
.A young man from Alabama who comes to the house to be cleansed by Ester. He is enlisted to help construct a wall, and eventually journeys to The City of Bones. He visits because he feels guilty for stealing a bucket of nails which he believed resulted to a man killing himself because of it. But soon realizes after visiting the city of bones spiritually that he has a purpose in life. And to release self guilt.
.This shot is when I was mentally in the city of bones. Seeing all the slaves who were killed and that jumped off the boat. But seeing myself in them.’

The stargazer. My long time friend Mac, the astrologer and palmist. A man with a big heart. As a child he grew up in a large family and often went to school hungry. Remembering his roots, every month he picks up food from local businesses and delivers them to three different east side Vancouver schools. He also dresses up as Santa to bring joy to little ones.

My brother @houseof_david, was a big influence on me in university. He rekindled a love of volunteering at the soup kitchen and food bank. A true original, he almost became a Jesuit priest, starred in a Tim Horton’s commercial, wrote manuscripts, encouraged my art and loved a good debate and discussion. Today he pursues his passion as an addictions counsellor and is a published author. He is dad to two Norse god dogs and a fiancé to a beautiful and special woman.
